Marijuana Tax to fund new Police Unit

November 1st, 2010 by Author4 Leave a reply »

In Colorado Springs, Colorado medical marijuana is legal.  The taxes on medical marijuana related businesses may fun a new unit with the local Colorado Springs Police Department.  The unit is dedicated to monitoring medical marijuana businesses so what a better way to use the tax money.  This is what our tax dollars should be used for, to fund things the community needs.

Sales tax revenue from medical marijuana has risen to about $50,000 a month in Colorado Springs.  The money could pay for three detectives and a code enforcement officer for a new medical marijuana team, which would be created in 2011 under the proposed budget awaiting City Council approval.  The team would be included in the Metro Vice, Narcotics and Intelligence task force.

If we could do this all over the country think about how that would boost our economy.  We could stop laying off police officers and instead support them along with many other things the economy needs.  Not to mention that marijuana prohibition is long overdue.
